On 29 June 2026, the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Potsdam formally confirmed the proven aptitude of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marcus Grum as a university teacher.
The decision follows positive external reviews, the report of the evaluation committee and the vote of the extended faculty council of 24 June 2026. It concludes the evaluation of the junior professorship for Business Information Systems, especially AI-based Application Systems, which was established at the University of Potsdam in January 2024.
Under German higher education law, the confirmation documents the additional academic achievements rendered within a junior professorship. It covers the full range of academic duties: research and third-party funding, teaching and supervision, transfer into practice, and academic self-governance.
For the chair, the decision is above all a confirmation of a research programme that has grown over the past years: making AI-based application systems comprehensible, sustainable and usable in real value creation settings – from the inside of a neural model to the organisational decisions built on top of it.
We would like to thank the reviewers, the evaluation committee and the faculty for the careful and constructive process, and everyone who has accompanied the work of the chair – doctoral researchers, students, cooperation partners and colleagues.
A particular thank you goes to Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Norbert Gronau, who supervised the doctoral work this professorship grew out of and who gave it the room to become a research line of its own.
